May be worth to mention that the Standard setup (default) of Ventrilo usually works so you should not need to temper with its settings ;D If you can not connect it is probably your router, switchbox, hub, internetsettings, microphone soundcard or whatever other device you are using.

No Eonwe, each room/directory/lobby serve as an isolated one. You have to be in the room to hear what is said.

Heyas, Just connected to Valar Ventrilo, It pleases me to see Vent found way into the Guild It sure helps those of us who have troubles keychating and playing. I have used vent about 2 years for gaming in DaoC and, in the hope Vent will be used alot also outside fridays, suggest a "room" or two for groups. Grps may then have some quit space for hunting.

This is going far beyond reasonable and it seems it is the word Alliance that does it. Because I introduced the word here I think it would be fair I try to further explain what I initially placed in the word and what not.
1. A common channel members of both or more guilds could join. In a common channel you can not expect everyone to hold a standard as in Valar guildchat but at the other hand it is free to join or dispand from if you do not like it.
2. Access to both or more guilds forums for socializing and inform of raids / quests. How deep an access should go is up to individual guilds.
Thats really all folks.
I did not mention anything about joining another guild or lower our own standards within our guild. But, when interacting with other people in other guilds you can not expect them to go intirely by our rules, you can try to persuade them that our way is the best way and thats it. If I or others do not like how any particular group or guild handle loot or speech, dont go with them on hunts or visit their forums but dismissing it all before even tried is silly.

I do not know how or when or what specifigly to do but one thing I know and think we will have to realize is Valar is a small guild in a huge world and thus may have to accept things we would not allow within our own ranks if we would like to keep chars and at the same time be able to join larger scale raids and do high end instances.
What chars one will join in on a channel is up to the player. The name may already be picked by two other guilds (or more) who already have formed an alliance perhaps with a board into which we may be invited. In that case it is simply join or forget and often the largest guild/s deside who they invite. Or if we are lucky we get a vote on it. Many scenarios are possible.
The only thing I can say right now is I understand the need Ulmo express for venturing further into the game and the problem of how to reach it without leaving and joining another guild.

I am not sure what I will do, I still havent reached 60 yet with my first, I still miss 6 levels and have a hard time to get there due to timediff and such. But I can tell what I kind of expected and thought as a possibility.
Basicly that same as what I, and my guild, did in DaoC. We made alliances with a common chat (much like the Valarchat in WoW) Now DaoC had much much more expanded possibilities for alliances. 2 guilds created an alliance with a chat and they were then in control of which other guilds they wanted in or move out of the alliance and how to manage the alliance chat. This is not possible in WoW but I should think some sort of copying the idear is possible with an "Alliancechat" with some few simple rules to keep such a chat clear of spam. Each guild resposible of informing their members of rules and remove members who can not stick to the rules.
Anyway I would not like to abandon Valar to join another guild simply to in on raids or high end instances. If we begin to do that I see no reason to maintain the guild at all in WoW.
In my eyes I see two ways of which I only like one. Establish an Alliance chat for contacts and friends/other guilds.
This would not be the same as the channel for guildfriends as we most likely will hear words and stuff generally not approved in the Valar but that may have to be as it will. Basicly it would serve as a channel to hear and announce raids and high instances within a wider circle of people that would be more reliable than pick up groups. It would help people like me and all others for that matter to find better groups and establish friends.
Could that solve the problem with the 60`s ?

Looting

Post by Elatan on Sept 14, 2005 2:52:40 GMT -5
The Gnomeregan run was picked as example because it was the latest, not because any or all members of the group looted as they did.
I may be way to naive not to roll on anything there is a far chance I perhaps could think I maybe once could use but I do not roll on an item I can not use or actually think I will use, I pass on everything that is not cloth within guildgroups regardless I may think the leather/mail/plate is plain fodder which no one will use and I pass on cloth I know I would sell.
I will roll for anything BoE regardless stats and if someone wants it they can ask me for it. It seems to be the standing rule I missed.
I can not, following the fact it was in a fight, tell who may have been looting but a couple times the dices came up. It would be nice not to have that screen in the middle of ones viev and have everyones attention until it is over. The loot remains for quite some time. That is all there is to it.
Arathorn : As for helping in quests or general aid I have noticed what you do. The case was if I leave all the drops to enchanters a form of payback could be expected. But that is not an issue anymore because I will grab what I can and I feel better with paying for what I need.

Looting
Sept 12, 2005 4:01:26 GMT -5
Post by Elatan on Sept 12, 2005 4:01:26 GMT -5
Heyas, Brand new topic that probably will cause some - errm - rumble. Yesterday I tried to make a little test, I thought I already knew what it would show, but I had to convince myself I was right. I have to say it is an observation in generel and not aimed towards any character, char, trade or skill. It is simply as it is with the looting-rules and I am not going to play with it anymore as I struggle just as hard as everyone else to play, pay and level my chars. I do not have an enchanter and that is the problem. As an enchanter you can claim, roll for (call it what you like) any item not going to "someone that really needs and will wear it item" That means 3/4 if not much more of coloured drops will go to any enchanter leaving the last item to be rolled for by the remaining 4 players AND the enchanter IF he can wear it. That is simply far from fair. Any item represents a value, for the enchanter he can get some matherials out of it and use those (he could even sell it or pass it to an alternative char of his though that would be against the spirit) If he could`nt he would have to buy it or find it alone. For the others it represents a selling price which he could use to buy some matherials instead of dragging gold from the money-drop everyone in a group share equally. I have yet to have free enchants from any enchanters. That would be the only reason I can see partly justify the free grab. I and everyone else needs the silver and gold from those drops just as much for our skills and trade. The only difference is we have to sell it first. Just for the example, yesterday I came out of Gnomeregan after 6 hours with 1 item that would be an upgrade, I could use it and I was lucky enough to win between 3 rollers (one was enchanter) 4 grey items + 1 white for selling, some silk and a little woll and some in cash as everyone else. During those hours quite so many greens dropped and to follow the standing rules I had to pass on 90% while enchanters could, and did, rolled for 90% I only see this strange rule in guild grps and I am done with it. From now on I roll for anything not going to someone who can and will wear it unless they can come up with some good reasons to maintain that standard. It will help me in my skills and trades. A last notice about grps. It would be so nice if looting dead mobs was done AFTER the fight and not while the fight still goes on. That would give people a chance to actually see whats picked or rolled for and give the whole grp a better chance to survive

We have 22 members in the WoW branch. Of these, only 16 are registered on the board. Of those 16, only 8 have more than 10 total posts on this forum. Of those 8, at least 3 don't play regularly on Lothar for their own reasons. So that leaves 5 regular posters, three of which have posted their professions, all 5 of which have posted in the WoW fora altogether, including the two passworded forums. Considering that, I find it hard to blame the password for people not posting there. The chance of people posting raise accordingly by the chance to read something of interest. I am sorry Eonwe but I really do not see the relevans between the boards total membership and loss of interest in Trade and Hunts. I see a relevans between the total amount people in WoW and of read/written posts in Trade/Hunts versus the other WoW forums combined with the amount of different toons/proffessions 22 players must have. I blame a part of that upon Password. Protection is fine but to get anything to grow from scratch you need to expose it. There is always a risk and always a prize. If you want to live, get healthy and strong, you risk injuries and even in worst case death. Thats probably any parents worst dilemma, the balance between protection and let go. No one walks through life without scratches. Same thing goes with a forum. It is much more simple but the dilemma basicly the same. You can protect it right to death. If you want to try to make it live there is a risk you get scratches. Your assumption about any protection is right. As it is now I prefer open forums. If it ever should begin to attract too many from outside it could be closed.

Due to my difficulties actually attending meetings I would like to take this / these issue/s here. First, the password issue for the two forums, Trade and Hunts. To put it plain, I find it silly and annoying. I can see no reason whatsoever to have a hunt and trade forum passworded. I heard a rumor about being spammed with reguests ? for what ? for selling and trading ? Hmm isnt it why it is a trade-forum, you actually want to sell something, offer your proffession for money or free ? As it is now not even the Valar cares to look or post there. Why do I have to fumble around at the AH trying to pick up a Wildvine or the blue bow ill need in 5 levels if someone in my guild have it ( but is going to sell it at AH in a couple days ) It just aint good enough Since we do not have much interaction as a guild ( mainly due to how WoW is build) could we at least have trade up, or secondbest, try to instead of doing anything to hinder it ? just watch the times each post has been read. Not much eeh. Guess why. ( See my other other thread WouW here in this section ) The Hunt section suffers under mainly the same conditions as Trade. No one looks there and no one expects to find anything there IF they can remember the password. I asked it to be made to make interactions within the guild. I have a hard time attending the friday hunt which often starts with 30-45 mins of "where to go, who will come" so it was tending my own needs. I wanted us to figure out where to go and who to come beforehand instead of wasting precius time ingame. Possibly also arranging hunts at other times. I tried twice with no response at all but thats not the worst, thats the ridicouls low amount of thread read. The ridiculous low interest in it at all. It has become a forum of what HAS been done. Woow I missed that hunt and quest, how inspiring Could we try look forward instead of back please. So, do you really think we would have any hunt spammed with reguests from outside guild for joining ? No you probably do not and what if we really had a single reguest from a lonely bypasser ? I would welcome and hug him. I, for one, would actually like to coop with him as I most of time (90%) hunt alone. All this is said well aware I am 6-9 hours in front of you but does that mean it has to be even harder cooping with guild both in trade and hunting. I do not only find the password silly, I find it stupid too as there is no real reason at all to have it.

I am amazed ! Why ? The Trade-forum has been up for nearly as long as the WoW-section but nothing is really there. Can it really be true that only Eonwe, Ulmo and I have a proffession ? and want to tell our fellow guildies we are able to do something for them ? And what can you do IF you have a proffession ? and want to enlighten and aid the rest of us ? Or did you only take it up to keep it a secret ?
