Hmm ... I finally got one of Lachwen's virtues to 10+1 -- hope it's one of the ones I'll keep! O.o But since she has to go back and finish grinding deeds anyway, hopefully it won't be too painful to refigure what she needs before blowing a lot of time on it.

The second run last week was quite successful, thanks to instance-savant Pippin keeping us from getting too lost. No GT run this Thursday -- Nim and Galdor will out of town and I will likely be offline as it is Mrs. Gneech's [1] birthday. I would like to get back in there and finish it in the upcoming weeks, tho, so I will post here when I think that's likely to happen. Next project: Urugarth and Carn Dum! Gotta get those class quest items. -Maedhros [1] She's in the VG as Aredhel, but it's mostly an honorary title, as she doesn't actually do much online gaming.

The first run was a hit! However, GT is a multi-stage dungeon, so we only got partway through. I'll aim for another run next Thursday, same time -- keep an eye out for updates if you're interested! -Maedhros

Just a heads-up, I hope to take Lachwen, my up-and-coming runekeeper, through Goblin-Town from top to bottom this coming week. This is a fun, lore-heavy pseudo-instance that doesn't get enough love these days, and as I need a bunch of deeds in there anyway, this seems a great time to revisit it.
I'm tentatively scheduling it for 8:00 pm EST on Thursday, August 4th. All classes and levels 40+ are welcome to come along; I will make an effort to collect all the GT quests so they can be shared before we start.

Yikes! No wonder it kicked us so hard. I thought we were doing pretty well there, until the one-punches started happening...

Well, semi-successful ... we were quickly splattered by the Piston Engine Room of Death at the bottom of Water Wheels. -MaedhrosV

Wow, where to start? Even ignoring the most inflammatory comments, the underlying premises are completely contrary to my experiences both within the VG and outside of it that I'm left shaking my head. The VG rude? That's crazy talk. Almost everyone I've met in the VG has been polite, patient, and fun to group with. While I agree that getting instances started can be difficult, the majority of the time it's because everybody "wants to do an instance" but we're all standing around deferring to each other ("I dunno, what do YOU want to do?") instead of just picking something and going. The run last Wednesday, which Ulmo seemed to consider such a disaster, I considered to be a success because we had a specific plan ("We're going to X, Y, and Z, you in?") and tried a lot of ambitious things. Sure, it would have been nice to beat the Forges, but at the end of the day whether we actually beat it or not is the LEAST important aspect of the run as far as I'm concerned. I want to see lots of content and have fun with my friends. Scoring loot is a bonus, but not the point. Now, I have been specifically called out in chat for "making people wait" on a Grand Stairs run, as I was travelling to the quest-bestower (Oh noes, a two-minute goat ride!) -- but that quest was for the Grand Stairs. If this is the kind of waiting that is a problem, all I can suggest is switching to decaf. >.< I'm also the guy who wanted to go into Forges. So if the problem is actually me, then come to me about it instead of creating drama in the whole kin. But don't be surprised if all I do is shrug and say, "Sorry it bugs you, dude." I am who I am and I intend to stay that way. I'm in the Valar Guild for Tolkien, not for instances. -The Gneech

Barring unforeseen circumstances, I'm in. I have no particular requests beyond "whatever's going." -The Gneech

Well, as always, my availability is dependent on whether or not my family, work, or artistic obligations allow. However, for the moment at least things seem to be on a fairly even keel so hopefully you should see me around on Wednesday nights for a while. Other than Maedhroc needing to do his class quest in Dark Delvings still, I only have a few book quests left so mostly I'll just make myself available for whatever's going. -The Gneech

Highly recommended: tolkienprofessor.com/Essentially a college-level course in Tolkien's work, free for the listening online. Great stuff! -Maedhros

I just wanted to make a note here that I'm very pleased with the Mon/Wed Instance Nights setup. Heck, even on the nights when instances don't happen, the fact that people are reliably around on those nights makes it much less discouraging to see group quests come up in the log, because it's so much more likely that there'll be somebody around who can join in. That said, if you see me on and can use a hand, please let me know! Right now one of my big goals is learning to be a good tank with Maedhroc, and while I can do that some on my own in skirmishes, nothing compares to actually being in a group environment. Thanks! -Maedhros

A bit of a follow-up on this: apparently Varda was hoping for a second, "all-Valar" turtle run on Monday nights, so if there is interest in that, I'll defer to her and just schedule my runs for some other time. My plan is to join the Lhee group turtle run with Galadhalion if there's space, mainly because he's the only character I have who's working on gaining a 1st Age. If there's an all-Valar turtle run afterwards, I'll send Maedhroc along to fill slots if needed, otherwise I'll just offer my post-turtle runs as an alternative to people who don't want to do another turtle run. (Honestly, I don't get the fascination with the turtle myself ... 1st ages are nice but not All That and a Bag of Chips, and the raid itself is dull as dry toast and has absolutely nothing to do with Tolkien. Not to mention the fact that all of the turtle drops are ugly as sin, but that's another story.) -The Gneech
