Ok, I'll begin it later today.
After Pharazon's post (interesting reading, will have to give it another read later), I'm wondering if I should name the next chapter "Rivendell," or "Return to Mirkwood."
Addendum: ----------------- Hmm, aside from the possession, I'm somewhat reminded of the spell of bottomless dread placed on Maeglin by Morgoth when Maeglin was captured (Fall of Gondolin, BoLT2). I know there's plenty of examples of Morgoth/Sauron using spirits, some disguised as people, but I recall no examples of possession.
I decided to go with "Rivendell," and if it somehow runs longer than most other chapters, that can be chalked up to covering a longer journey.

Hey I don't suppose you guys would be interested in another character joining up? I just figured I should try and contribute more to the guild. Let me know.

What race do you want to come in as?

Well, I was thinking of a man, but if you need something else I can adjust. I havent yet read through the entire series yet, just this thread so far. So if there are things I absolutely must know about the story before I join in, can you brief me on those? I will eventually read it all, but it's a daunting task

Well, your race and history affects the best place to come in, so consider that :}
For example, we met Silvans in Mirkwood (the Elves of Mirkwood), a Dwarf crossed our paths coming from Rivendell, and Dwarves were met in Erebor (a Dwarf kingdom obviously). There was an opening for Noldor Elves briefly in the part 3 when Auros met with other scouts from Rivendell.
Essentially, your character should have a reason to join us and be where he is when he joins us. The trick is to stay reasonably within the bounds of Tolkien's works, but that doesn't rule out originality. Fainan and Calion are acting as escorts, Estarion joined in for his reasons, and Frali, our newest, is coming along to deliver messages to Gloin in Rivendell.
Your character should know what is reasonable for him to know. For example, Auros as a Noldo from Rivendell knows of Frodo's task, which is why he is "Scouting Ahead" :} Elrond's libraries are no doubt well-stocked, as he (Elrond) has had quite a long time to fill it, as well as considerable experience of his own and of those who have come to call Rivendell home, so Auros would have knowledge of many things from the past. Auros has also been around for a while himself (since at least the ending years of the Second Age, so far as can be drawn from the Story so far), and has his own experience to draw on. Calion, as a noble of Thranduil's court, and younger, may not have as much knowledge of general history as Auros, or quite so much combat experience (Auros has had a few thousand years after all :}), but would have a better understanding of how things are going in Mirkwood. Fainan, as a common soldier of Mirkwood, would have yet another perspective, perhaps more hands-on in her knowledge of Mirkwood, knowing routes generally used by soldiers and enemies alike, and some not so generally used. These are just examples, as I can't speak to the personal experiences of Varda's and Pharazon's characters outside of our story (hence my use of "may" and "perhaps") :}
The other members of the group at this point do not know anything about Frodo, except perhaps if they know through some way that he is related to Bilbo Baggins (Bilbo knows both Thranduil and Dain, among other Dwarves in Erebor, and may be known of in some families in Dale as well). All they know of Auros' mission is that he is gathering information on Sauron's actions. He has not revealed anything else to them.
Depending on the descent of your character, you may know who Aragorn is or may be on relatively friendly terms with some Elves, or you may have misgivings about them, such as the Rohirrim thinking less-than-well of Galadriel due to what little they knew of her and Lothlorien.
Pick your race, then decide a background for your character. You can reveal pieces about your character throughout the story as opposed to making his entire life a blurb, so it doesn't have to all be a complete story right off the bat. It helps, though, if you already have your character's general history and personality in mind, since that can affect how your character interacts and is interacted with. For example, Auros' attitude to the Silvans is different from his attitude to the Dwarves, and he may interact differently yet again with another Noldo. Of course, this can also be affected by interaction within the story :} My suggestion is to try to have a good understanding of the race and group from which your character descends.
Creating a believable character within the boundaries of a world is a fun challenge. Anyone can hit the extremes, writing about a really cool character or a really weak one. Telling a believable story is the trick. Our characters don't always have to agree or even like eachother, as is the case with Auros and Calion at the moment. Just remember where the character stops and the person starts :}
But you probably know all this already :}
Most of us are using names roughly based on our guild names. Fainan means "I emit light" and is quite fitting for the Valie who created the stars. Pharazon's Calion should be obvious :} Obviously you can't straight out use Ancalagon, but some retranslated version of it in a language befitting your character might help you find a good name.
Oh, and read at your own pace :} It is alot to get through :}

Aiya Ancalagon!
We'd love to have another character in the rp. As a suggestion for human entering the group, we are about to go by Dale on the return to Mirkwood, giving you a number of human options. Perhaps the darkness spreading in Mirkwood alarms you and you want to help stop it before it reaches neighboring Dale? This could be a danger to your home, family, and friends. Perhaps your character has worked with the raft elves or other Mirkwood elves and has a friendlier feeling and connection with them than is usual. Perhaps your livelihood depends on Mirkwood's continuing health.
Or perhaps you're a traveler who has stopped in Dale.
Just having read this thread is probably enough to let you interact at this point.
See you there!

See the latest post. We're in Erebor, about to leave. We will pass through Dale on the way to Mirkwood. We are now starting the thread "Rivendell".

Eonwe, I vote the name be "Return to Mirkwood" as the very end would probably when Auros returns to Rivendell. We're currently leaving Erebor on our way through Dale heading towards Mirkwood, so it's a long way yet until Auros may relax in the Hall of Fire.

The change is made.
We should probably make some estimates on how much time has passed within our story. Scouts were sent out on the 25th of October and can't be out longer than the 18th of December, as that is when Elrond sets the depature date for the Fellowship (7 days later). It should be assumed he's had a chance to hear most of what his scouts have gathered by then.

Another note: The realm of Angmar is primarily west of the Misty Mountains, so Rivendell would make a better starting point for any journey in that direction.
Auros' story encompasses more than simply what he does in the present of our tale, but also what he has experienced in his long past. As such, it's not a tale that can be told with a few "flashes in the pan." I've already been planning the Rivendell part of the story, and have some things I'll bring up with you when we draw close to that part.
In the meantime, let's keep this story going!

So, perhaps this is a stupid question at this point, but are we going to keep going with the story?
