This board serves as a place for us to share our characters' histories, as well as a place to tell our tales of victory or defeat when MEO comes out. If anyone thinks these should be separate boards, speak up through e-mail or through posting here. I may not always post, but I always read :}

Where should we put pre-release rp? Some choices are on this forum on its own thread, or on our thread in the MeO forum.

We can put it here as well. Any of our MEO RP can go here as far as I'm concerned :} Pre-release I thought was implicit with char histories, as our chars aren't actually "there" or "in the present" until the game goes gold, or at least that's how I saw it :}
If we did it on the MEO board, I would suggest putting it in the RP section there, then linking to our thread. Otherwise it may end up being considered "off-topic," and it wouldn't look good on us. That's what I see anyway.

Okie dokie. So we'll put a link in MeO from the RP section to our Role-play here. The RP would be character description, and running a story. It won't be just like the game, but might be the kind of fun we were hoping for with the Guild-wide story.
In the RP, we need to type OOC at the start if it's Out of Character, preferabley putting it on another thread.
We could also pick a time of week, like we do for meetings, and post one after the other, maybe different threads for different groups if needed, maybe having our groups bump into each other to start yet another thread? Alternately, we could post daily, maybe checking morning/evening.
We need to let others know when we'll be gone, park our character in an Inn etc, or have the character dragged along, or have someone else proxy play it.

Ok, guys. I jumped in to get us started. See thread "Scouting ahead".
It's set when the Fellowship is getting ready to leave Rivendell and scouts are sent out to check the roads ahead of them to pick the route and see how to avoid the enemy. Auros is one of those, checking to see if Mirkwood is a good way to go. I'm off to meet him.

Ok, here is my first non-narrative comment (I'm sure there will be plenty more following in time).
Well, Varda, I guess my piece wasn't clear: I meant the horse took Calion on her back to the Forest-gate, where it fell asleep, so as to have Calion thrown off there, or falling at his horse's side.
But no matter, it can still work... if you find me, just be sure to find me on the way to the stream, as if I had fallen off underway, instead of finding me at or in the stream itself. Or perhaps I will wake up myself... hey, who knows.... stranger things have happened and will happen in Middle-Earth.

Oops! I can edit my post, np. Having Calion at the rendesvous is better for the story.
Check it now.

OK, to make sure I know where we all are: Fainan- Appears to be on the Old Forest Road near the Gate? Calion- Arrived there inadvertantly, apparently passing the (southern arm of ?) the Enchanted River. Haran- At the Old Forest Road Gate (outside). Dusksinger- Heading in the direction of the Old Forest Road Gate. Auros- Heading North, away from the Old Forest Road (lol :}) toward the Forest Gate (this path crosses the Enchanted River) to pass through and come to Erebor from the West. (pg 76 Atlas of Middle-Earth)
Either I should change this to coincide with everyone else, or this can make for a very interesting piece at the beginning :} I'll take a look and either adjust or make excuses :}
Take care :} Eonwë

I'm a tad confused myself. Have consulted my maps but not sure exactly where we are right now battling the spiders. Initially I thought I was just west of the Old Ford, just south of Rhosgobel (and a bit further south of Beorn) at the entrance to the forest, but that does not seem to coincide with meeting Calion coming from the Enchanted River (doubt his horse would cross the mountains as well). Perhaps we're a bit further north at the second entrance to the forest (immediately east of the river Rhimdoth)? That would seem to make a bit more sense, although I might have met Beorn going that way (wonder if he'd let a lone dwarf pass unnoticed, esp. followed by lurking spiders). I don't have any gates actually marked on my maps so I'm playing it by ear. Any clarification? This won't affect my next post as yet, but we should be on the same page ;D

Fainan was originally supposed to meet Auros at the Forest Gate at the Path (p. 76 Atlas of Middle-earth). Calion would have been coming from the Enchanted River along the Path. This was considered a safer route for the Fellowship to take than the Old Forest Road, reason it's being checked out.
Fainan hung back in the trees near the Forest Gate. Calion would have come there too from the Enchanted River. Although my mind boggles at a horse putting a rider on its back, its seen in fanfic, so I'm going along. We could say Haran has already passed the Carrock (interesting traveling adventure he can relate to the group later), that spiders were paralleling the lone traveler from inside the forest and are more than ready for lunch. I will have to let Elatan figure out where Dusksinger currently is in relation to the rest of us.

Poking the stink bug made it let loose a stink, which Fainan is using like smelling salts hoping it will wake Calion. Stink bugs have no stinging parts. Be of good cheer, Fainan doesn't consider pain funny. A normally very clean elf in such a state from an earlier soaking, rough ride, and a stink bug is a funny contrast to her.

Sorry, about that, I actually had no idea what a stink bug was, I don't know that much about insects I'll change it to fit the stink bug, just like you changed your story, seems fair. And appropriate. It is done. If there are any other mistakes in my parts of the tale, please warn me as soon as possible.

heh... I've met my share of stink bugs cycling the many miles I do every summer <chuckle>... luckily I can outrun them (although carrying the bike is awkward <HA!> ). Anyway.. er.. I don't have access to this 'Atlas of Middle-earth' people are referring to. Is there such a thing online I can look at. Based on what you said, Varda, I believe I'm on the right track (the path you are talking about looks like the one east of the river Rhimdoth that I mentioned earlier). Now as to where the gate is specifically... I'm still not absolutely sure.

I haven't got the Atlas either. All I'm working on is memory, a few pages from the Hobbit, and the map of Mirkwood in the Hobbit. As such, I did not even know there were 2 gates, or even 2 paths. However, if my statements are defended by Varda, I guess I'm not that far off the mark. Point two: A horse throwing a rider on his back, is that not possible? I remember a few vague images in a movie or something about a horse grabbing the master at his clothing in the neck, then slinging him on his back. What movie, I don't know... Edit: Ah, I just discovered the Old Forest Road some distance to the south, on the Mirkwood map. Sorry about any confusion I might have caused. In my stories I did mean the Elf-path to the North, with the enchanted river crossing it.

It may be possible for a horse to do that, I don't know. I've seen it mentioned in other fanfic. But certainly your elven horse could and would toss his elf friend on his back! A bit of instinctive grabbing of mane to hang on wouldn't hurt.
Aye, the Path is north of the Old Forest Road north of the Y of the River Langflood if that helps. It's not marked on a whole lot of online maps I was just looking at.
