I don't know why you thought she was an elf, but I thought so too But after Eonwe's post I decided to check, and I found in her post a statement, that the Barrow-wights were "evil men from long ago who infested our forefathers graves", which can mean nothing but that Dusksinger is human. There are probably other statements as well, even though some elements out of her posts could point to Elvish: Her name, Dusksinger/Lomelinde, an almost all-knowing mother who is deeply connected with nature, and her connection with the lore of Elrond. However, those statements do not prove anything, while the Barrow-wight statement would prove she's human. For absolute certainty, you'd have to ask Elatan

In Dusksinger's bio post on the MeO board. Dirhael and Ivorwen are actual JRRT characters, Dunadain parents of Gilraen, mother of Aragorn. Here's the copy/paste:
In Meo I will be Dusksinger, descendant of Dìrhael and Ivorwen ( plan to be a sorceress but it might change Dusksinger lives in the wilderness of Eriador as so many of her ancestors did and that is pretty much all that is known so far But I am sure her history will evolve as she meets people, known or unknown upon the journey and quests into Middle earth.

I've added a new thread to the General Gaming section called "Archaic Words and Uncommon Actions," where those who don't understand why something is/was done that appears in our RP can ask and get an answer. I encourage anyone who uses the RP boards to check it often for questions, or if you know there's going to be a question on something you post, give the explanation ahead of time. As a wise Vala once told me, "You grow when you learn." :} valarguild.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=gamesgeneral&action=display&thread=1080275192Thanks in advance for your participation in improving our knowledge. Yes Dusksinger is a mortal ( human ) female. Her name might cause confussion but I wanted to keep the name and transfering it back it becomes Lomelinde. ;D In MeO only humans, I think, can be a sage and a sage is what I plan to roll. Regarding Arathorn`s post about Aragorn a little piece of writings of J.T. concerned his name : Ivorwen were at Aragorn II`s naming and she stood by and watched when she had a vision and said : "Kingly Valour" ( for so the name Aragorn is interpreted ): that he shall have, but I see on his breast a green stone, and from that his true name shall come and his chief renown: for he shall be a healer and a renewer.´ Those that stood by did not know what Ivorwen meant for there was no green stone to be seen by other eyes. And as the wise Ivorwen had said Galadriel gave the Ellesar to Aragorn and years later he received the name Ellesar. Finally I think I will have to bail out of the story. I have an incredible hard time finding time to sit down and write on it. Please bear in mind it is in english and that is not my natural language and each time i spend at least an hour, where to go, what to do and then write it and look up words ( which sometimes aint the right one after all ) I simply can not find the time to keep up between work, wife, shopping, friends and what else I need to do. Each day off from work I get up between 0600 and 0700 to catch up with Jack and the Annals of Arda and do a bit of work there before shopping, cleaning, washing etc etc and suddenly its 1600 and wife is home Once or maybe twice a week with this story just dont do it and it is a simple matter of priorities. I have to cut something to be able to do the rest properly. I will finish Dusksinger by her death ( I guess the two other wolves will get her ) unless someone else wants to drag her along.

On a second look at the story it seems you have "calmed" a bit down and so I wrote a piece more.

Kill your character?! How will you play her in MEO then? Do you expect us to sail to Valinor, march up to Namo and demand he not let you go to the Timeless Halls? Well, just because I would doesn't mean I want to have to do it, lol :} But I do understand :} I spend half an hour to an hour writing these things sometimes and English is my first language :} Lucky for me my job isn't too mentally tasking or I couldn't mull over my next part during the day :} So, it's your call, but there are a few excuses that can be made in case you want to interject later :} such as: Dusksinger too weary/wounded, must stay with Elves of Mirkwood while others move on with mission. Gives chance to come in later. The "drag her along" where she becomes an NPC until you speak up :} Beyond "courtesies" such as getting help with lifting a Dwarf, I'm reluctant to "control" another's character any further. I waited for one of the "Mirkwood Elves" to "declare" the gate open, as I thought it better form. So, chances of me doing much more than "And Dusksinger was there too." are not good :} Take care :} Eonwë

Well, I don't know if this belongs with MEO, or with WoW, so I'll post this at both places. I have just found great news.... Night Elf rogues can master throwing daggers... this means I can literally transfer Calion from the RPG to WoW, where I was planning a Night Elf Rogue called Calion for a long time already.

Why plea for mercy there when Sierra games will be more than happy to restore her to life for a small amount of gold ;D The case is if I can not keep up it is meaningless to have her in the story. That would be a loose end and in that case it is better to finish it. A guestion of dragging her along was purely meant if anyone was softhearted and could not stand a death. Personly I would rather see her dead than reduced to an NPC and it would also fit better into my vision of the world. There it is a hard, cruel and tough world where death comes easy. Even in the LotR I find it kinda wierd that only Boromir died of the companionship. Thats 1 of 9 friends in a worldwar they all participate in. Yes yes I know. Its a story, they cant all die but still Anyways, she aint dead yet and the story is not finished before the fat Orc sings. ( donno why I wrote that, was it me ? )

Well, you said you didn't get a chance to look back, so I thought "hey, maybe more joined in." :} Also makes more reason for there to be a "fight" rather than *Fainan shoots arrows, wolves die* :} I've never really heard of a pack animal hunting with only 2 of them anyway :}
I agree, seven or under :}
Take care :}

Elatan, if your character still needs an excuse to disappear, this might be the opportune moment. We may need someone to go to Rivendell and warn Elrond that Mirkwood is under attack and too dangerous for the Ringbearer's mission. Then if you have time to rejoin us later, Dusksinger can be coming back from Rivendell to help as a sorceress against sorcery. We really could use a sorceress's help on this one! Perhaps only a sorceress could be expected to survive the trip back with Dol Guldur cranking out evil reeks.

I'm sorry guys, but I'm getting ready to be picky :}
Pharazon has said the spiders took out the actual Guards to the Forest Gate, which can be assumed to be a party of at least 5-7 in the unsure times in which we are rp'ing (Legolas speaks of Mirkwood becoming a dark place once again if I recall, so Thranduil does know it's getting dangerous and would have larger scout/guard parties. ) and not only this, but with no losses, and apparently the guards had armor. Even if the spiders that attacked "us" (being at the moment only 3 of us: 2 ranged Elves and one melee Dwarf) were perhaps a distraction meant to either occupy the guards while they attack elsewhere (and ended up attacking only 2 escorts and an unexpected Dwarf), I find it hard to believe that the spiders could sneak up on the guards, a larger and better armored group (I assume the only one of us wearing any "real" sort of armor would be the Dwarf, as we have no mention of chain mail anywhere else as I recall) with such speed and ability as to take them out with no losses, while we (refer to above for the meaning of "we" here) take on a force, even if only meant as a distraction, and suffer only a slightly bitten Dwarf. Even the Noldo takes a gash to the arm against the wolves (thanks for the opening on that one btw Pharazon. I knew he'd be injured, just not why or how :}), roughly 7 of them, the same size as my estimation of the guard party. I mean, they'd have to be a group of Shelobs :}
It doesn't affect any of the posts after it yet, and it won't affect mine, but I ask we do something a little different :}
Like I said, sorry guys, I had to be picky.
Take care :} Eonwë

Now I'm getting picky too. First: I said road patrols, not gate guards. Perhaps that's only 2 or 3 (although the statement of the soaked ground would lead one to assume there were more). I actually said I knew naught of what had happened to the gate guards. Second: We are the elite of our races, it seems. At least, Fainan and I are, very famous archer and very famous with the dagger, and at least one of us (me) has stated to work with the high court of Thranduil. Third: The smoke and intelligence of the creatures is new, even Thranduil did not know it, therefore: why would he send a larger troop, even in these dangerous times? Forth: The spiders attacking us may be of another group, being further to the west, they have not yet fallen under so much smoke, and are less intelligent and organised; while the spiders slaying the guard patrols would be smarter, and perhaps in numbers of 30-40 creatures, all of them surviving the battle. Or, of course, the spiders attacking us were a very very small distraction party. Fifth: The wolves are actually sent from Dol Guldur, instead of the spiders who are working on their own, and as such are from a whole different class of creatures, even if they are a lower class: The Nazgul of Dol Guldur may have underestimated the influence of the 'Blight', as I will now call the smoke and it's influences (if you play Morrowind, you know why), on the creatures of the forest, especially on the already somewhat intelligent spiders. Wow, this is getting more and more like some other forums I know... discussions, trying to nullify other people's arguments.... P.S. Thank you, I just wanted to create a dramatic cliffhanger with Calion being almost slain

1.) Patrol, not gate guards: I looked, you're right, so I'll concede this party was probably smaller.
2.) Didn't know we were playing "elites" :} I figured we were good at what we did, but elite implies a whole different level to me (especially with the Noldor lords and Balrog-slaying,... now that's elite! :}) Considering the Noldo version of "elite," it's hard for me to be that with much realism:} I'm a Calaquendi and have,.. benefits,.. associated with my lineage, but slaying a Balrog I think would take a bit more training :}
3.) I was referring to the general danger of the times. The smoke is new, and I wouldn't expect it to be planned for yet. The fact his patrols were armored though says he expects danger. You don't (usually)send patrols into areas you know are safe.
4.) Ok, I can accept this. Still, no deaths at all? But then, I guess no injuries on the enemies' part is better than none on the good guys' part, given the numbers you've stated.
5.) No disagreements here.
6.) I'm just trying to ensure a level of realism within Tolkien's world. I'm sure there will be others reading this tale who ask the same question. If we can't explain now why the spiders were able to take out an armored patrol with no casualties (and possibly no injuries, since I don't recall the mention of spider legs laying around?) we'll have to come up with something later. I prefer to come up with the answer now :} Another reason is that we may have to fight the same creatures. If the patrol was better armored and lost without inflicting some death on the other side, how will we fare? Our skills can only get us so far, even if we are fighting only 10 of these apparently very dangerous creatures and there are 4/5 of us..
Thanks for the responses :}
