do we really need to go into teams? Just look at what Melkor's 'position' is... he's our Ethics guy, or last I checked anyways Amusing little thing to know But ya, I understand that Varda... hence the supposed at the joking overtone Yes 'mankind' is a rather tough term... they really try to avoid using it now, amusing though it is Honestly, I really don't find it to be a problem, but it's something I had to make a note of because I would've been docked MAJOR marks had i spoken exclusively...

As much as 'majority rules' applies in most circumstances... you're never SUPPOSED to use exclusive language, I believe is the term. Basically, what that means(if I got the term right... *laughs*) is that it is improper English, by scholarly standards nowadays, to refer to any part of a whole as though you refer to the whole. Using men to mean people, for example, is now improper English

I didn't care much for the story... it seemed overdone and lacking in some way... I enjoyed it enough to read it through once(Up to Pillars of Creation) but I wouldn't ever re-read it. I tried once and couldn't get through the second book on my re-read...
Not a bad series, but not all that exceptionnal either... personally, I think the first was the best of them(hint to Goodkind... the only time series that go above trilogies work is if you make them in vastly different time guidelines or make them using different main characters... a la Modesitt... Recluse is just a timeline jumper... while Spellsong Cycle shuffles characters around after the third book... but most of the time... when you go beyond a trilogy in a single series.... it gets old. lol)

My personal favorite is probably Burning Brightly... but closely followed by all of the Last Herald Mage trilogy and all of the Arrows trilogy...

And my other addition, for the time being, to this area, will be a thread about Mercedes Lackey.
She is the author of the Valdemar series(a HUGE series consisting of a number of trilogies based in various regions of the timeline of her world... and containing a vast array of characters, cultures and species) Her writings tend to be a little closer to the action end of the spectrum than Modesitt's or Rawn's yet she's still very good for character development.

While I'm here, also going to start threads for the other great authors I know of First and foremost, other than Modesitt, would be Melanie Rawn. Her Exiles trilogy(well... eventually trilogy, third book's not yet written) is a great piece of writing. It's also more of the theoretical character developing type of series rather than high action and intrigue... but most people tend to become so familiar with characters in this series that at some of the sad parts they actually cry over what's happening(trust me... I've heard of enough people doing this to know ) While I'm here, I'm just gonna post a link to Melanie Rawn's official website(of which I am a member... mainly because of the forum www.melanierawn.com/

Has anyone read either the Spellsong Cycle quintology or his Saga of Recluse series(11 books, not sure the term for that hehe He's an amazing author whose works tend to be more theoretical and strongly focused on character development than a lot of authors... yet they're supremely interesting... just a little hint for those who've never read any I'd DEFINITELY recommend these to anyone... he has become my favorite author due to the sheer depth of theorization that I've seen in the Saga of Recluse... it's just so interesting

I read the start of it, and I couldn't get past the first half of the first book.
Note: With me when reading, if there isn't SOMETHING major(doesn't have to be action) that catches my attention near the start, I'll never get through the series no matter how hard I try lol...

it's an Orcish conspiracy Turg... some Orcs that REALLY hated Gondolin are after us... since my ancestor was near Gondolin and you ruled it...
