Well, when you say "master stone," the one that comes to mind is the one sitting in the Tower Hills. The particular tower I believe is called Elostirion. This particular palantir only looks toward the master stone in Tol Eressea, which of course is off the coast of Aman. If memory serves, as I hope it does, it remained there after the end of the Third Age.

Actually, the master stone was placed in Osgiliath, and was lost in the river when the city was first overrun.
It was called the master because it could look to all the other stones simultaneously.

Since Finrod hasn't said any more, I'll toss in a question for this LotR trivia thread:
At the Battle before the Black Gate of Mordor, Pippin kills what in order to protect whom?

If I recall it was to save Beregond, not Faramir. Not sure if it was an Orc leader or a Troll, though.

Getting warm. Pippin saved Beregond. What kind of Troll?

It was a troll chief.

True, Ancalagon. It was a troll-chief. They were of the great hill-trolls of Gorgoroth.
Now you get to ask a LotR question, as well as the one you on the Sil thread! Go, Black Dragon!

<sigh> A dragon's work is never done. And that fool Glaurung gets all the publicity, and he can't even fly!
Anyway, I ask this question in homage to a rather one sided conversation I had with Varda the other night in a software program that cannot be named:
How many stories does the Prancing Pony have?

Anc, would it be cheating for me to answer this one?

It's a tough one for the top of your head. How about just guessing, folks? There can only be so many stories on the Prancing Pony.

I'm thinking two, with the second story being further into a hill or some such, making it ideal for Hobbit rooms.

Has this seemingly innocuous question stumped people? Guess I should let Varda answer it then
