EDIT: I'm not going to be able to be online tonight, so I'm going to have to postpone this until some other time. Sorry, all! Galadhalion needs him some high-end armor! So I'm going to try to set up Monday night post-turtle runs for interested parties. Unfortunately, while I'm a fairly good gatherer-of-people, I'm not much of a battle captain, so my first priority is going to be finding a good raid leader.
Inspired by Varda's thread here: valarguild.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lotrogeneral&action=display&thread=898 I made a list of the pieces I need, figuring I'd try to pick them up systematically.
The raids come in two basic tiers, with the "copper coin" set being intended to give you the stats you need to succeed at the "silver/gold coin" set. Right now, as Galadhalion has only one piece of the copper set and none of the silver/gold set, I'm going to concentrate on the lower tier -- that is, Grand Stairs, Forges, and Fil Gashan.
I imagine most of us are pretty sick of the Grand Stairs by now -- I know I am, and I've never won the coin from there. However, that makes an excellent argument for finishing it off and getting it out of the way! Therefore I propose to start with GS this coming Monday (August 3rd) around 9:00 p.m. (depending on when the turtle run finishes). Any assistance would be welcome, and everyone who needs it is welcome to try for the coin. If I don't get it this time, I'll just keep trying 'til I do. Once Galadhalion has it, if anyone else still needs it, I'll switch over to Maedhroc for GS runs.
Who wants in? -Maedhros

Ooh, handy guide! Thanks. Hopefully this'll keep me from duplicating any more coins in the future (D'Oh). -The Gneech

My schedule depends on so many factors that it's hard to name a specific time; Pippin and I are both in a tabletop RPG group that theoretically meets on Saturday nights except when they don't (if you see what I mean), so when the tabletop game doesn't happen we're both likely to be on, but if it -does- happen you won't see either of us.
Aside from that, it's more or less random, although Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights are slightly more reliable than other times.
I'm happy to help with anything when I'm around; at this stage, for my own characters I'm mostly interested in advancing in book quests, although I have yet to get through all of Helegrod, the Rift, or Fornost on any character.

Huzzah! The run was a big success, including slaying Lhugrien twice to help out one of Varda's alts as well. So bit thanks to everyone who came along!

Come on along with Galadhalion on a wacky, fun-filled trip to Urugarth as he attempts to finish off his L45 class quest by getting a Flawless Scale of Lhugrien and a Sigil of War ... plus whatever else people might feel like doing in Urugarth.
Time permitting, some Vol II book action is on the agenda, picking whoever's at the earliest in Vol II and zooming right along as long as we can keep going.
Hoping to start around 7:30 EST, but can make other arrangements as necessary. Hope you'll join us!

I'll do my best to be there. Any instance is fine; the only one I don't "need" is the Skumfil end boss, having my Shiny Pants TM already. (Skumfil left/right would be fine tho. I don't have any keys yet.) Shamat and I both need to go into Dark Delvings for our class quests, as well. -The Gneech

I like it! On the principle of imitation as the sincerest form of flattery, may I adopt it in my LotRO forum sig as well? By all means! -The Gneech

On the official Lotro forums, I've put a link to ValarGuild.org in my sig, with the text "Valar Guild: Lore Monkeys and Proud of It." Since I'm pretty well-known over there (especially in the Warden sub-forum), hopefully this will help us get a little bit of attention. -MaedhrosV

The troll fight was fun. The whole incorporeal-orcs-with-crystals-in-their-bellies was a bit D&D-ish for my taste. Is there even an attempt to tie that to the lore, and I just missed it? -MaedhrosV

I am very much against this contest on both philosophical and practical grounds; so I vote "no." -MaedhrosV PS: I happily toss a payment to the kinhouse every few weeks or so anyway, and it's always well-paid in advance. It's not like having the kinhouse paid up for a year would be any real boon to us.

Maedhroc hit level 57 last night. He has taken on both Thaurlach and Thorog; completed all of the zone quests in Evendim, Eregion, Forochel, and been through much of upper Moria. I think it's safe to say that he has officially equaled or surpassed Galadhalion, my former main, in achievement. The only things Galadhalion has done that Maedhroc has not are finished through book 1.10, completed Ered Luin, and seen the outskirts of Lorien. I am much more proficient with Maedhroc after seven months of play than I was with Galadhalion after two years. Clearly the warden class is simply a better fit for me than the champion. There are a variety of reasons why this may be -- I think that part of it is that the warden class forces you to think ahead and be proactive in the fight, which forces you to take the initiative. The warden is also much more flexible than the fairly one-trick-pony nature of the champion. If I'm hurting, I concentrate on HoT. If I'm fine health-wise, I concentrate on DoT or building aggro. If I'm grinding, I go into Recklessness and just charge everything I see. Wardens, like Timex watches, take a licking and keep on ticking, as opposed to the "glass hand-grenade" nature of champions, who can pour on damage but disintegrate like a wet tissue when they meet significant resistance. Once Maedhroc does actually reach level 60, I will start working on expanding my character stable a bit. I don't know if I'll be able to rehabilitate Galadhalion or not, but if not, Galadhros will take his place as my elf wanderer character. Tristello, the hobbit minstrel, is probably doomed to life as a storage bank at this stage, and Maedhran, the captain I made to run with Laurie, will probably end up deleted to make room for someone else (since I ended up playing another character with her). Russangalad, the elf guardian I puttered around with a bit, is probably going to be deleted as well. I was thinking of making a dwarf champion who specializes in two-handed weapons, to sort of "learn the class all over again" now that I am a better player. In any case, I am very happy with how Maedhroc has turned out. By the end of my time trying to run Galadhalion, the game was just plain not any fun any more. There were a few times in Angmar or Moria when I was close to simply uninstalling the game and giving up on it forever, because I was so frustrated. But even on his roughest nights, Maedhroc has been much more fun to play than Galadhalion, and made LotRO a lot of fun to play. -MaedhrosV

I'm going to try to schedule another one of these for next week sometime as well -- while the Angmar runs have been good for my deeds, I'm making very little actual progress on quests. -The Gneech

Make sure to empty out some quest slots so you can pick up the in-zone camp quests before going in there. If we have the chance, I'd recommend another run into CD to pick up your crimson gorthorog horn while we're at it. -The Gneech
