Frali:
Although the young dwarf had gotten used to spending hours in the saddle he was relieved as Auros finally called a halt for the day. Bowing he handed the pony to Meren who unsaddled and prepared the pony for the night. Frali wondered whether he shouldnt learn how to do the basic tasks of caring for a pony , but he was still slightly uncomfortable of spending time unmounted near his mount. He was a warrior and not an animal handler.
Sighingly he settled near a campfire and looked up to Meren who approached him in a conversational tone, making him blush with her praise.
"You do me honour, Lady Meren, in acknowledging the tools of a workmen", he answered slightly embarassed. "But the truth is simple .. I grew up in the area round Mount Erebor which was ever under threat of orc attacks even after the Battle of the Five Armies was won and the Dragon was slain. Also those spiders which we encountered earlier on our travels are no strangers to me . As soon as i was old enough to hold an axe and a sword i joined my fellow dwarves patrolling the surrounding area and the adjoining stretches of Mirkwood. Sometimes it were the patrol leaders who taught us youngsters the basics before we took up duty. I was lucky enough to have a good friend i could practise with and sometimes my kinsman Gimli would come and join us and point out some finesses."
Frali smiled a bit melancholically as he remembered the training sessions with Cori and Gimli, sometimes Nari would join them , but those days were gone now and Cori joined with the ancestors.
Biting back the dark mood that wanted to overcome him, Frali turned to Meren once more and shrugged humbly. "After that it was simply practise, soon more than just rocks or sparring rounds. One learns in this profession .. , or pays the the eternal price."

Frali:
After retaking to the road Frali was relieved that this continuing journey had proved to be more entertaining than he thought.
Thanks to the ministrations of Meren and some of the other elves at the clearing his stout pony could be recaptured and calmed down, the few deep cuts he had gotten away with tended to and healed. Now he seemed to be happy enough following the bigger Elven horses and trotting steady onwards like a well oiled wagonwheel. Affectionately Frali patted his pony, whom in his mind he had started to called "Chomper" and put himself into a more comfotable position in the saddle.
He glanced at his newest weapon, the orc sword he had picked up at the river and slightly shivered as he discovered some barely visible runes on the hilt. For some reason they had been hidden hitherto, but he was not too sure whether it was of any meaning. For the moment the dwarf decided to remain slilent about them and kept an eye on Fainan whether she would launch a new "attack" any time soon.

Frali:
The dwarf suddenly found himself engaged with a couple of orcs while their elven leader vanished after a short exchange with Auros, that turned quickly into a rout when elven reinforcements joined them finally.
He was enough of a strategist to know that a confrontation without their timely arrival would have meant their certain death - at least his -, but part of him regretted the missed chance to prove himself worthy.
Frali hoped he hadn't made a fool of himself so far and almost frustrated he threw the last of his beloved axes into the back of the fleeing orc and grunted satisfied when the weapon bit deep and the unlucky victim collapsed in a heap.
After a quick glance around the warrior picked his way through fallen orcs and spiders to join Fainan and the others and bowed deeply to their rescuers after wiping some sweat from his dirty face with mud and blood splattered hands.

Frali::
Being on foot didn't slow down the dwarf as much as he feared , since the Orcs were being cleared by the elven horse's hoofs. His own pony had run off in Auros' direction and doing his own best not to get caught in the spiders webs, kicking and rearing when he was being assaulted.
But Frali didn' t have much time to admire his mount's bravery, since he had enough to do keep up with the charging elves and clearing away any lower hanging webbings with his axe and shield, not to mention the odd orc that came too close for comfort.
Slowly they made their way towards Auros, and as Fainan shouted Frali had the easier job of getting through the gap, since he was shorter. On the way he managed to get rid of some of the javellin throwers and slightly worse for wear but whole in general , Frali grouped with the others around the Noldo and waited for the next wave, wondering against how many more they could stand.
Well, at least they had put up a fight and would do until the bitter end. And bitter it would be, since they were so much in the minority. Unless some reinforceents came out of nowhere, of course.

Frali:
Being busy keeping Meren as safe as possible , the dwarf at first had not noticed that the Noldo had run off on his own to deal with the leader. Just when the fight slowed a bit down , so the dwarf could glance around and almost instantly saw the fence like webbing out of which the sound of swordfighting came now slightly muffled. Quickly glancing around his fighting companions Frali realized to his horror that Auros was missing and so it could be only him in the webbed area. Fainan's shout confirmed his conclusion and off he ran to follow her order, not without turning to Meren: "Come , Come my lady .. leave the spiders be , they are no threat now . The Lord wants a rescue and i intend to play my part in it!" As fast as he could , Frali followed on foot and slashed at anything that wanted to hinder his advance.

Frali:
The young warrior had impatiently waited for the bag of Meren to do whatever it supposed to but then he had enough - apart from that suddenly two smaller orcs broke through the bushes and with several swift strokes he made sure they had nothing to grope the elven lady with and finished each off with a mighty blow.
Then the melee was in full swing and Frali hacked at whaevert he was able to reach until the first wave of attackers abaited and none remained to harm them further.
Still the dwarf had no time to rest for long, as Fainan's warning reached his ears he spotted glittering in the closest bushes and low pitched chittering. Without hesitation Frali threw one of his beloved axes in the direction and with a hard to hear plop and hiss one of the spiders fell motionless out of the closest bushes and the threads of the web it had woven hung in two from the branches.
Highly alert and in his element Frali watched closely the other edges surrounding the clearing, ready to jump into action wherever he was needed.

Frali:
The young dwarf looked at the orcs hiding in the bushes with contempt , and the words of the orc leader only served to fill his heart with rage. He was not able to understand how easy going the elves where in the whole situation ... the warrior was almost trembling and only great strength of will enabled him to stay put the instance the leader appeared.
Meren's whispering did little to pacify his mood, but only a slight frown showed that he was less than pleased with the instruction.
"As you wish , my lady", he grumbled , "I guess you know what yer doing with that arrow there and the wee bag at the end of the stick ... at least i do hope so."
Frali suddlenly thought he sounded like a dwarfling that had been denied a toy but he couldnt take back his words, but then he added with a fierce smile to soften his reply: " I sure will follow that second part of your order with everything i have ... my axe might not be as seasoned as the elves' swords and bows but it is not untested and thirsts for more orc blood."

Frali:
The young dwarf did the best not to fall of his pony as he gave all to keep up with the elven horses, and just as he thought he was not able to hold on any longer Lord Auros decided to give their pursuers some steel to taste. That was more to his liking !
So when the Noldo dismounted gracefully, Frali did the same much less so , half falling to his knees but quickly he had drawn axe and shield in the same instance as he steadied himself. A dangeorous spark lightened up his eyes as he took position beside Lord Auros. As warrior he would not hide behind trees and scrubbery but show his companions that he was worth his bread and to be feared by orcs and spiders!

Frali:
Frali was not happy to be on the road again, but dutifully rode as good as he could in the elven company, ever feeling out of place and in the way, especially since he could not really follow the conversation between Auros and the lovely lady Fainan.
But , jusdging from the tone of their voices both elves seemed to be concerned about something. Furthermore the gloom that was created by the weather seemed to be growing within his normally cheery personality Frali had not even tried to make conversation with either Fainan or Meren.
Growing finally suspicious about the whole affair, Frali was just about to make a comment to Meren about his concern when his pony started to whinnie nervously and pranced the dwarf had to rein him in and patted his neck, trying to calm him.
At that point the young warrior's finely honed instincts as a fighter took over and inconspiciously slid the orc sword to an easy reachable place and made sure the straps holding his throwing axes in place were lose and his trusted axe quick to grab.
When the shout "Ambush!" came Frali was more than ready for it, but instead of the host of orcs he expected all he saw was an arrow which made him laugh, but the feeling of uneasiness had even increased so the young warrior stayed alert, murmuring nonsense to his pony and calming it further.

Frali:
The dwarf 's elation from the skirmish at the river was quickly washed away by the dismal weather and miserable he followed the elves as good as he could. Therefore Frali was very relieved when Fainan led their soggy party into a well camouflaged hunting camp.
Frali bowed politely to the present hunters and smiled at Fainan's comment , even if a bit tired: "You brought an extra rabbit or an extra dwarf, my lady?" He chuckled quietly and added:" At least the extra dwarf is there allright, and dont you worry, Master Elf," he addressed now the hunter who had complained about there cook. "I am sure it wont be worse than what i would have myself to suffer if i was alone on the road, which i am more than glad that i am not."
With a tired but still slightly mischievous grin and a polite bow the young dwarf accepted the a bowl of soup that Fainan had brought him and settled as close to the fire as he could without stealing any more comfortable place to the two females.

Frali looked first at Calion who now stood leaning against his horse, nodded at him with a smile and then at the sword , that lay on the ground.
It was a sturdy weapon , slightly longer than what he was used to but feeling somehow lighter than he expected. The craftmanship was crude and simple, but of good quality and it had a sharp edge.
He picked it up and tried a few moves , then nodded in approval. "I might as well, Lord Elf, I might as well", Frali answered with a grim smile.
With that Frali fastened the sword as good as he could and scrambled on his pony that patiently stood beside the elves' horses and only cast a slightly bemused look at him as it felt his weight on his back.

The dwarf got to his feet with astonishing agility - not after casting an appraising look at the Elf on whose feet he had planted himself so firmly and bowing acknowledgingly at Meren. He decided to ignore the horse for the moment, these creatures were definitely way too big and intelligent for his taste (not to mention the lack of bolstering for the rear parts)!
"My pleasure to be at your service, Lady Fainan," the dwarf smiled. "Aye, and tough as the mountains we are, made of stern stuff", he added with somewhat more confidence than he actually felt.
"Are you all right, lady?" he asked Fainan, while he was walking to the corpse of the spiders and pulled his throwing axes out of the spider, not without tearing a bit of cloth from his leather shirt he wore under the mailcoat and wiping the blades of gore and any residing poison.
