What sort of animal does Bilbo get compared to, and by whom? There are actually two answers to the "whom" part, and I would like them both.

This is why I said at the meeting you asked a good trivia question :}
I think I know the instances you are referring to. The first is as Bilbo's leaving the Shire after his and Frodo's "gross" birthday party. Gandalf sees a change come over Bilbo as he's trying to get him to relinquish the Ring. The second is when Frodo is alone with Bilbo, and Bilbo asks to see the Ring again. Frodo shies away, and Bilbo's visage changes.
I don't really recall what he was compared to. I would say either an orc or Gollum, but neither of those are animals.
If I'm not even close with any of this, I admit you've stumped me.

Nope, it was an animal. I'll give you a hint. If you look at the first post in this topic, it says that this topic is for trivia from LotR and The Hobbit. He was very specifically called a certain animal by two different individuals - same animal both times, too.

Close, but not quite - and you didn't say who said it. After this long, feel free to look it up - it can still be a hard question even with the books in front of you.

Before looking into the book, I'll try this once.
Bilbo gets compared to a rabbit, the first time by a troll. Which troll I cannot say. The second time by... I'm in doubt between another troll, Gollum, a spider, or Smaug.
I'll go with Gollum.

Nice, you actually caught an instance that I had missed! Yes, the animal was a rabbit. One of the trolls calls him one, who are the other two that called him that? (I forgot about the trolls saying it, which means there are three answers to the "who" part, not two)

My turn? Really? I hadn't even answered the question completely. Oh well.
Before the hobbits migrated over the Misty Mountains, they were divided into 3 breeds. What are the names of these 3 breeds, what terrain/area did each live in, and what races of Free Peoples did each have most contact with?

That's a sizable question there Phar I wonder why no one has attempted it yet. Off the top of my head I can easily name the three 'breeds' of Hobbits: Stoors Harfoots Fallohides But the other information I have not committed to memory. Maybe I'll get half credit!

I'm fairly certain I remember most of the facts, now let's see if I can get them in the right order.
Stoors- Lived near rivers, namely the Anduin, before the founding of the Shire. As such, I'm going to guess they typically had dealings with Men. Living so close to the Anduin, they might've mostly come into contact with the remnants of the people of Numenor.
Harfoots- If memory serves, they interacted mostly with Dwarves, which puts them living mostly near mountainous regions.
Fallowhides- I'm thinking mostly plains, which would've put them in a good position to live near the Northmen who later became Rohirrim.
Let's see how much I got right.

I feared this might be too large a question, but I hoped you would get it anyway. Correct, the Stoors preferred the riversides and flat lands, and lived at the Anduin's shores, having mostly contact with Men. Correct, the Harfoots dealt with Dwarves, and lived in the foothills of the mountains, preferring highlands and hillsides. Less correct, the Fallohides. While for location it is indeed said to be a northerly branch (and thus most likely to have contact with the Northmen, I hadn't come to that conclusion yet) they preferred another terrain-type and, it is written, had mostly contact with another race of Free Peoples, at least over the other breeds. For getting so many facts right I'll give you an 8/10. I'm not sure how it works if you get most of a question right but not all of it, but I grant you the right to ask the next question. I would, however, like someone to state the missing facts I mentioned

Well, normally we'd keep going until someone got it completely right :} So, if someone here wants to turn my mostly correct into an all correct (from memory :}) then it'd be their turn. Otherwise, I can just give the rest of it from the book (which turns out I should've gone with my initial gut feeling on the Fallowhides and what race they most associated with), I can ask the next question, and we can proceed from there.
