More of one color makes that type stronger.
Combinations have names and may have special qualities.

Red: damage now (need it killed fast)
Yellow: damage over time (dot) (monsters has tons of morale)
Green: heal. Healers having trouble keeping up
Blue: power. Long drawn fight, fellowship is running out of power.
