Here is a bit of information for those wanting to use Ventrilo.

One of the most common complaints about using voice chat is that some people can barely be heard, while others are so loud that they blow your ear drums out. And we all know what it's like when someone gets excited in the heat of battle and starts screaming into the microphone.
There are settings in Ventrilo that can help balance these radical volume changes and make for a less painful experience.

Make everyone's voice the same volume in Ventrilo!
Go to Setup
- Enable Direct Sound ( check-box above 'output device')
- Select the SFX Button
- Select Compressor and click Add.
- Under Compressor Properties use the following settings
- Gain = Adjust for how loud you want people to be. (I use 7)
- Attack = 0.01
- Release = Around 500
- Threshold = Around -30
- Ratio = 100
- Pre delay = 4.0
