Indeed it does, and what a challenge! Let's get our mains kitted out with full raid gear (including at least one Watcher item) and give it a try. Thanks for the link, V.

Meren:
On hearing the splashes and the commotion at the riverbank, Meren turned from helping with the horses in surprise. Not only one but two of their party had fallen into the river, and Fainan was already reaching for them with a pole. Knowing that she would only get in the way of the others, she thought about how she could be helpful in other ways. She realized that once the two were retrieved, they would be asleep for some time. She grimaced slightly at the thought of how the imperious Auros would react to this unexpected snag. Perhaps she could shorten the delay ... in her mind she reviewed her herbs. Yes, golden-grass though dried, combined with a drop of star-thistle essence, would stimulate them and definitely shorten their somnolence. As the others busied themselves with the rescue, Meren hunted out her herbs, built a small fire in a somewhat sheltered spot, and prepared to boil water. She set out a pot from her herbalist kit to collect rainwater--that was one good thing about all the rain: she wouldn't have to purify the river water. Busy with these preparations, she also kept an eye and an ear on the situation at the riverbank.

Right, though it was a sapling by the time they took it to Middle Earth. Your turn, Ancalagon.

Sauron killed Nimloth, the White Tree of Numenor not long before the Akallabeth. How did there come to be a White Tree in Middle Earth, when Nimloth had been destroyed?

Meren:
Relieved that the crossing was over and the horses still safe, Meren was packing up the herbs she had gathered when the last passengers were about to land. Smiling at the thought that the wait in the rain was about to end, she was looking at the pack she was closing when she heard an unusual splash. As she turned to look, she thought, "This doesn't sound right--what's wrong?"

Alasse was disappointed in her desire for turtle soup, so she will be back tonight to try again for satisfaction.

The proceedings of the first two Omentielva conferences on the linguistics of Tolkien's invetned languages are published in the series Arda Philology, in volumes 1 and 2 respectively. You can preview the full contents of both on this page: omentielva.com/ardaphil.htm. These articles are very technical but full of fascinating material for us 'language geeks.' (Varda, you might want to include this site among the links. I didn't notice it there.)

Meren:
Meren walked carefully down the bank and boarded the boat, placing her gear near the center to help keep the craft balanced. Then she positioned herself to stay out of the way of those guiding their crossing. As they crossed, she surveyed the nearing shore. Yes, there were several promising patches of vegetation!
Soon they reached their goal, and Meren debarked just after Estarion. With smiling thanks to the those returning for the rest of the party and the horses, she turned to Estarion. "Mellon, let us scout the area to ensure that our mounts and we will be safe. I sense nothing near, but one never knows." Pointing to a suitable flat spot away from overhanging vegetation, she suggested, "That looks like a good place for the horses. It will be hard for anything to take them by surprise from above, and we will be able to see what comes from the sides." As she spoke, she spotted quite a few plants ripe for plunder for her herb stash and within easy reach of their makeshift paddock. The wait for the crossing to be completed would be productive!
