This week was the Anniversary, so we tried a new type of tourney to celebrate. This is both scored according to a formula, and the time is recorded. The formula for scoring is simple:
[(Median instance level) * (Max number of players allowed in instance)] / (Sum of Player levels)
Median instance level can be done simply by looking at the levels typically provided by the meetingstone (the lowest number being the lowest level character who can get in) and taking the average of those two numbers.
This formula favors small groups and low levels, but since time is also to be recorded, that should favor higher levels. So, simply, the goal for any instance is highest score with lowest time. This could also be used in timed tourneys, seeing how far a group or individual can get in a hour, for example.
Scoring is done by bosses killed, so those need to be kept track of, then a bonus is given for clearing an instance completely (all creatures in the instance must be slain, respawns excluded, as those will already affect your time if you have to fight through them due to a wipe. Also excluding bosses that require a special summon like the final step events in the Paladin and Warlock epic mount questlines) Bosses are 10 each, clear bonus is 100.
Clock should be running from first attack to final killing blow. If something happens and you have to stop the clock, make sure it's after you finish whatever battle you're in, and that you don't continue the fight any further until everyone is ready again.
Now with the report:
There were five of us:
Sauron on his lvl 70 Warlock.
Eonwë on my lvl 70 Paladin.
Arwen on her lvl 70 Priest.
Dracxil (guild friend, my brother) on his lvl 68 paladin.
Fangorn on his level 70 Warrior.
Total levels = 348
Our target was Scholomance, a fairly safe test instance for a first go.
We had an interesting time at first. We had a bit of lag to deal with, but surprisingly not as much as Dracxil and I have had when we've been there by ourselves. We had a few very tough battles, because, as we found out when we ended up with Rattlegore in the Dragon room, Sauron's AoEs were going through the floor. Thus in several battles we were not simply fighting what we had in front of us, but a few groups of guys from below who decided they wanted a piece of the fight. Unfortunately, this and lag did manage to cause a couple of deaths early on, but after we dealt with Rattlegore we cut back on the AoEs. Things went smoother at that point.
We cleared out the entire instance, minus only the Paladin epic mount quest boss.
In total, we killed 13 bosses.
Kirtanos the Herald
Rattlegore
Jandice Barov
Ras Frostwhisper
Vectus
Marduk
The Ravenian
Lady Illucia Barov
Lord Alexei Barov
Lorekeeper Polkelt
Dr. Theloen Krastinov
Instructor Malicia
Darkmaster Gandling
Boss score: 13 * 10 = 130
Clear Score: 100
Total Score: 198.3
Time: 2 hours
Thus endeth the first tourney of this type.
