I have heard much about this, and I suppose I really should read it. What's the general plot? I vaugly remember it being something about male/females being seperated or something.

I've read them all multiple times. General plot that doesn't give anything away? There are two sides to this "magic" which can be woven by people. The female, saidar,and the male, saidin. A long time ago there was this battle against darkness, etc, where Lews Therin, "The Dragon", was the leader. They eventually won, but the bad guy put a taint on the male half of the source, so anyone who uses it goes mad. Thus anyone with it nowadays is usually killed. Oh, if they don't go mad they rot to death. uhh, also, people now aren't nearly as strong with it as they used to be--it used to be a super-advanced civilization with "cars" and such. Anyway, read them and find out the rest. Not sure how much of a spoiler this is. If any of the mods think it's too much, just delete it.

I read the start of it, and I couldn't get past the first half of the first book.
Note: With me when reading, if there isn't SOMETHING major(doesn't have to be action) that catches my attention near the start, I'll never get through the series no matter how hard I try lol...

Well, it was interesting enough for me to fight past the most annoying aspect of the series: the women. It was a hard fight for a bit, but once I got to the second or third book the whole "men are no better(can also read smarter) than boys and we must tell them what to do or they'll never know/learn/figure out anything" attitude lightened up a bit(it's still there at spots, but it's more individualized than a general attitude now). That kind of attitude really gets on my nerves and made it hard reading for a while. Out of all the women in the book, I only actually like 1 or 2, can respect at most a handful more, and the rest remain placidly neutral when they aren't getting on my nerves. Some of the men aren't much better. They tend to be weak in ways they shouldn't be. Like Rand and his thing about,.. well I won't spoil it :} I'll leave my rant there for now. Take care :} Eonwë

Yehaw! Started reading WoT just a couple weeks back, and nearing book 4 now. I totally agree with you Eonwe, although I think that if all the guys are as whimpy as most of the men there, they deserve to be slapped around by women. Also I think that Rhand's thing about.... you know what is pretty interesting ;D. The funniest thing about the books though is that up until now, Rhand, Perrin and Matt are all blissfully sure about that the other are far better at handling girls than them .

Are we talking of the same "thing" here? I find it a bit disturbing he's got that "thing". Guess that should be told via PM :}
The problem isn't encesssarily that the guys are wimpy, it's just that they're wimpy when it comes to women, and the women always want to call the shots (not one counter-example here). *Shudders at the idea of the Women's Circle*
I was going to say more, but well, I've got alot to say about these books and I don't want to bore people with my lectures on why something shouldn't be the way it is :}

heh, yeah, the men DO look kinda wimpy when it comes to women EVEN the Aiel do . And no, I won't spoil by saying how when or why, you'll get to that eventually, and besides, you can figure out part of it just by reading the books . Oh, and I am now totally stumped about Rhand's thing.... tell me through PM.

Sorry, took a bit for me to remember exactly what Rand's "thing" was, because it's been a while since I read the books :} I knew for sure, however, that it wasn't interesting :}
Rand's "thing" coming your way.

I've read upto number 10, but am not quite as enthusiastic in reading it as I could be. There are times in the stories that it goes so slowly and others where I want to just smack a few people for being so stupid/bratty/bossy.
You are all right about the women, they can be so annoying and the men so wimpy. They should be able to stand up for themselves or something.

Aiya all.
I feel that Jordans wheel of time series is a very good collection overall. He presents an everexpanding world that is both deep and engaging. However as the series progresses I have had to reread the entire assortment time and again just to be able to recall where some of the HUGE cast of characters are from and where they fit into the plot. Following the main characters is fairly straightfoward but some of the supporting cast have the uncanny knack of causing me to stop where i am and start flipping thru previous volumes to locate them. And i personnally feel that most all of Robert Jordans characters act rather childishly when it comes to the "Men Vs. Women" area. Despite these shortcomings the Wheel of Time series still ranks as one of my top five favorite series.

I'm glad so many agree with me :}
Since one usually writes what he/she knows (doesn't mean some people don't just throw some wild stuff out there and hope no one calls their bluff), I can only assume his depiction of women (and men) comes from Jordan's own experiences, in which case I pity him.
To Thorin: I've had the same feeling with some of them. I know I've heard the name before, but have to go back and find out where exactly.
I can't wait to read book 10, but got other books in queue :} There's still some of Egwene's visions he's gotta work in there, plus things back at the Black Tower seemed to be getting real interesting.
Take care :} Eonwë

Well, it happened. I just finished reading Book 10 :} I feel,.. quenched. Not like I was about the other books, ready to hit the next one. And no sign of resolution in sight! I think I can make it a while until the next book, but if he dies and leaves this series unfinished,... I was hoping for more about Rand and,.. what he did at the end of the last book :} but only got a chapter or two. And the prologue, 100 pages! That's not a prologue, that's almost a mini-novel in its own right :} I'll leave it there for now :} Take care :} Eonwë
