As you all may well know I have officially left the Valar gaming community to join a european one. The Kinship I have joined for LotRO is called Circle of Trust. ct.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=60404&TabID=525463
So far it seems like a decent good kinship and by far the largest in Euro, its a bit large in members for my personal taste but when game is released I expect a lot of gamers changing kinships as the real test for any kinship will come then.
Anyway, I have shared a lot of stories with Valar and thus I will share this one too. We had a contest of creating the best background story for CoT which should fit into real lore and at the same time give us a history of honor and comradie.
Here it comes :
The story of the rise of the Circle of Trust.
This is how it came to pass, according to the whispered legends, how the Circle of Trust was founded. Unknown to all save its own members and the chieftains of each race. No record was ever written and only the rumours of what maybe is only a legend of an order has survived. Yet, out in the wilderness, in dark times, near the river Mitheithel and the Hollin Ridge shadows have been rumoured moving silently around and a tumbled ring of sitting-stones half overgrown has been seen.
In the Second age year 750 Galadriel and Celeborn established themselves in Eregion and there a mighty brotherhood of smiths arose. Among them Celebrimbor became the mightiest and though his heart was untouched by the evil, he was under influence of Sauron in disguise. In the years of the fifteenth century Celebrimbor and his smiths at the heights of their skill forged the nine and the seven rings, but alone and in secret Celebrimbor made the three mighty Rings of Power. But Sauron in his black heart desired to master and own all and in secret he began the smithing of the Great Ring to rule them all in the fire of Orodruin.
But Celebrimbor discoved the betrayal and attempt and sought the counsel of Galadriel and was advised to bring the three mightiest rings Sauron did not know about out of his reach. But Celebrimbor could not leave himself and so attract Saurons suspicion. Thus, by Galadriels aid and friendship with the Dwarves in Moria, and Celegorms friendship with the tall men of Númenor who sailed up and down Agatharush from Vinyalondë to Tharbad and across the mighty sea, an order was devised. Made to take, hide and bring the three mighty rings Narya, Nenya and Vilya out of Saurons reach.
The tale of the order later known as the Circle of Trust is only known in loose fragments mumbled by storytellers around a cosy fire on clouded nights. The order never appeared in any of the preserved writings saved for later ages despite the fact it played a significant and important role in the war against the Dark Lord in the east.
The order was to consist of Elves, Men and Dwarves, the three races made in ancient time who had fought, united, against the Dark and three were the rings to be hidden. The members of the order were to be found within each race's most trusted individuals. People trusted and valued within their community, honoured and brave, who had never given in, given up or failed the hope they were entrusted with.
In Laer (summer-season) near Loëndë (Midsummer day) in the Second age year 1692 at the day Aroeren (the seventh day of week) in the month of Nórui (June) a secret meeting was set in the grassy and unpopulated foothills north of Hollin Ridge.
Between the thorn-bushes came forth nine people, three of each race chosen in secrecy by their leaders. It is told as they gathered and sat down silently in a circle one suddenly stumbled and fell backwards into a hole. As the others rushed to help him up three small hairy animals leapt out of the hole but they were not fast enough and got caught. To their astonishment the animals spoke and pledged for their lives. They had caught a small family of Hobbits. There, in the wilderness, saw the Circle of Trust take in, for the first time a new race.
And thus it came to happen the nine became twelve for the Circle could not let them go afraid of the knowledge they now knew. But the tale also tells how the small family became valued members of the Circle though the race itself was unknown for many centuries to come.
One ring, Nenya, was by the courtesy of Dwarves brought through Moria by the order, and out into Dimrill Dale and from there to Galadriel in Lorien. The other two rings were by secrecy of Elves sailed down Glanduin through the low waters and Nin-in-eilph to Tharbad where they were loaded onto a Númenorian lighter carrying timber to Vinyalondë. From Vinyalondë a ship sailed north along the coast passing Harlindon and with the first winds of autumn it sailed into the Gulf of Lhun and anchored at Mithlond with its secret cargo of two Elven rings.
In the aftermath of the great war that ended the Second age and the wars that came after, many people died and those once known became forgotten
Many years have passed, an entire age passed, and no one remembers the names of the first members of the Circle of Trust, who they were, where they came from, where they went and the knowledge they gathered. But the ideas and the honour upon which the Circle of Trust was built has lived on, passed down from the depths of time, from ancestor to heir and now, once again the heirs of Circle of Trust are called upon to gather for the war and the coming of the Darkness.
