I'm getting a new video card next month so I imagine I'll be able to try this game out, so count me in... er... what do I need to do to be part of the proceedings?

Hail Arathorn! :}
The beta for this game hasn't been announced yet :} We're in planning stages, so all you have to do is find a part of the discussion here on the boards that is important to you, and weigh in on it (i.e. give your thoughts). If that particular issue hasn't been brought up yet, it's probably time it was brought up :} Or youcan comment on anything we've disccused so far :}
Might want to start looking for a name or three for your chars as well... something related in meaning at least to your Guild name. You obvious can't walk into MEO named as Arathorn :}
Take care :} Eonwë

Hmm.. ok I guess this is where I already get confused. If not Arathorn, then what? Don't know of any aliases for him, or what ME is allowing/disallowing.. what are the rules? What are the guidelines... WHAT's THAT CRAWLING UP YOUR SHOULDER!? <ack!>

Well I do not have the patience to read all the diary stuff and this you may and may not so I kinda wait until release. Then pick something with whatever kind of magic will be allowed or a seemingly brutal killer of whatever available. Got a couple of names I could use depending of what may be alloved but basicly I just wait and read a bit about it here and there. Mostly Varda`s longwinded letters ;D while trying to figure out what the. h.. it means

*Flicks Mirkwood Spider from his shoulder* Just a bug :}
Right now we're encouraging creative names that are similar in meaning to you Guild name. We have a thread on this board with some examples where Varda and I have attempted to do this with our names. How deep we've chiselled this into the proverbial stone is still uncertain, but I'd say it's encouraged.
At least it should be something creative and fitting in the Tolkien theme, so no "leet speak" :}
I would also say "leet speak" should be disallowed in all guild communications on MEO. It gets annoying seeing it other places and I don't want to see it here :} We don't have problems with our current members as far as I've seen, but just so there's no questions.

I'm not referring to abbreviations and acronyms like "brb," "afk," and "gtg" necessarily, but about examples such as you have given: "l33t sp34k." The only time I want to see strings of numbers and letters in this fashion is if I'm reading hex code :}

Hmm... well, I'm still not sure what I can use for Arathorn... can you suggest an example for Arathorn so I have an idea which direction to go with this naming convention?

Well, to be honest I can't help you with Arathorn :} I would recommend e-mailing Irmo to see if he can dig up some variants for you.

I know this is kinda simple, but since Arathorn was Chieftain of the Dunedain (Men of the west), how about "Haranúmen" for me? or "Haran" for short? So, 'Chieftain of the west' and 'Chieftain' for a short version? OR for a REAL long one "Haranérnúmen" (Chieftain of the men of the west) ..ick... too long. I like the first too tho... hmm... thoughts?

The previous was in Quenyan, so I looked into Sindarin, but couldn't find chieftain, used King: SINDARIN: -Taurannûn (king of the west) -Taur (king) -Tauradanathannûn (King of the men of the west) That last is a tad silly, but... (bit my tongue trying to say it: pron. "tor-ah-dah-nahth-ah-noon", I'd imagine, with a rolling 'r') btw, this is all conjugation/grammar notwithstanding, of course. I'm just a leeettle puppy-dog when it comes to Elvish <pant, pant>

BTW, getting my new video card this Saturday (3 days away!)... I imagine D2X should be somewhat faster ... I'm still using my old 16mb card right now.. upgrading to a 128! Also wondering, anyone know the cost of MEO? Will we buy a CD or download a program and pay for registration? Or is it a monthly fee? Or is it all coming out of petty cash <HA! > Any info on that?

Haran sounds good to me :}
Congrats on your new gfx card :}
It will most likely be a cd that you buy, get a month without paying (besides the cd payment) then after that a monthly rate. The actual amount hasn't been released yet. We've still got a bit of a wait :}
Take care :} Eonwë
