Since several people have been having problems and asking me how to get it to work, I've decided to post this here: --- To setup Diablo II for the Middle Earth mod (you can get the mod at www.planetdiablo.com/vkmods/): -First, copy the entire 'Diablo II' directory and give it a new name like 'Diablo II ME'. (Note: you have to have another 1.8 Gigs or so of disk space available to copy the directory.) -Then unzip the mod (all you really need is the 'data' directory) into the new 'Diablo II ME' directory you just copied to/created. -Then create a shortcut that points to the new copied directory's executable, and add '-direct -txt' to the 'target' field (I called my new shortcut 'VK Middle Earth Mod Diablo II - Lord of Destruction'): Ex: In 'Target' field: "C:\Program Files\Diablo II ME\Diablo II.exe" -direct -txt In 'Start in' field: "C:\Program Files\Diablo II ME" -The above directories are based on the usual default installation. Note: I changed it to 'Diablo II ME'. Here's a snapshot of the shortcut details: valarguild.org/arathorn/temp/Diablo II ME shortcut snapshot.jpg[/img] -- That should do it. GL! ;D

FOr some odd reason , after following the instructions and paying close attention to the included screenshot......
.... my computer still will not run the dratted thing!
Every time I attempt it I get a CD rom error.. (please check and make sure that the disk is in drive and click retry...)
I'm out of ideas.
Maybe a mail to V&K might help?

I would like to note that having an entirely new directory for the ME mod is not required with the current version, as there is no file swapping. So, if you're low on Hardrdive space, just install directly to your D2 directory.
Galdor: The only time I got a cd error was when I was using the bat file included to run this (which does the same thing as the shortcut method). If you are not using the bat file (titled ME Mod in your main D2 directory) give it a try and see what happens. If it still doesn't work, you may want to seek help from V&K.
Good Luck. Eonwë

Eonwe, Ahhh.. Hadn't really thought of that, having only the one dir (had ME running before the last patch as a separate one, so just upgraded). Makes sense though, since all it does is add and extra directory.
Galdor, As Eonwe asks, what are you using to run the game, a new shortcut or the .bat file they provide? I use my own shortcut that I set up as explained. Sending them a note asking about that specific error might help, they responded quite quickly to me last time. Let me know what you find out.

I think I know what happened now...
What I did...
Created a new directory like in Arathorn's screen shot above, Though I named mine D2 ME.
I also copied the entire folder contents of D2X, substituting the data folder for the one included with the mod. I have tried to use both the .bat file and double clicking the new icon I have for The D2 Me mod.
That may be my error.
So, do I just create a new directory and then add the data file from the mod to the existing diablo II folder ?
I'll look at it again when I have time at home.

er.. you seem to have posted the same thing 3 times... in any case: not sure what you mean by "substituting the data folder for the one included with the mod". The regular D2X folder has NO 'data' subfolder in it, so I don't know how you could substitute anything?
SO: As Eonwe said, disregard what I said earlier about creating/copying a new Diablo directory, apparently you don't need to anymore.
Simply unzip the MOD into the "Diablo II" folder and it will create a 'data' subfolder with everything you need to run it. Then either run the .BAT file that comes with it or create your own shortcut as I stated earlier with the specific extra parameters and point to the regular Diablo II directory (OR you can copy the shortcut you have that runs your regular Diablo II and just add the '-direct -txt' parameters as in my explanation.
Let me know how it goes.

Well, here's what I did:
First time :
Downloaded the ME MOD from V&K's page. In fact was rediredted to some other site from V&K's page where the MOD was. It was not V.1.91. Copied entire d2x file folder, unzipped MOD to it and created a new shortcut with the changes to the target field as well as the start field.
Found out where the correct verson of the ME MOD was (from Thorondor)
Second time :
Scrapped all previous leftovers. Unzipped MOD to desktop and followed Arathorns instructions again. But this time took the data folder from the mod and the .bat file & put those into a new folder ...along with a copy of everything else that was in the d2x folder.
No good!
Third and final time : Scrapped all evidence of the first two attempts. Unzipped The MOD right into the current d2x folder. Created a shortcut on desktop with a change to the target field only.
Worked like a charm.
So now I can play either version with no problems

That's odd. The second attempt should have worked (mine does). Ah well, you got it working, that's all that matters

Do you mean the ZIP that you downloaded from their web site? If so the file may be corrupt and didn't download properly. Try downloading it again (the file is memodlod-v1.92.zip and is 3.2 MB) After unzipping it you should get 238 files at over 11MB in size all totaled.

Make sure you've got the most recent version of LoD (it can't be simply Diablo 2, must be the expansion) and v 1.92 of the ME mod.
That done, check to make sure the target has a space between the last " and -direct and also one between that and -txt (must also be txt, not text).
Another thing V&K would tell you is to make sure you have no other mods installed.
