Ok, I didn't want to do this, but you made me :} Statistically, the Valar Guild is made up of more men than women, so first off right there, it's ok to say guys :} Second, in some languages, even when groups of both men and women are involved, the masculine form of the plural generic term is used, so that makes it ok :} Third, there are women who take no offense to being grouped in and referred to with a generic term such as "guys" so it's ok there too :} Fourth, yes I know you guys are just giving me a hard time, but hey :} But if you guys feel it that important.. My dear ladies and gentlemen, I hereby formally invite you to partake in the board posting activities here permitted under this section of the board :} Take care :} Eonwë

As much as 'majority rules' applies in most circumstances... you're never SUPPOSED to use exclusive language, I believe is the term. Basically, what that means(if I got the term right... *laughs*) is that it is improper English, by scholarly standards nowadays, to refer to any part of a whole as though you refer to the whole. Using men to mean people, for example, is now improper English

Guess they're going to have a hard time with the word, "mankind". As one of the gals in the guild, I don't mind being referred to under the umbrella words that just mean all of us buddies together. Gender, geography, and all those boundaries have very little meaning in our gaming and writing. My guy druid in Texas can fight evil and discuss books with a guy running a gal amazon in Michigan and normally not think twice about it. What's fun thinking twice about is when Varda and Melkor are working together! We have some of the most incredible team-ups! I'll bet you guys and gals can think of a few beauts you've been in too.

lol yeah Like Sauron and Turgon, or Sauron and Aragorn I know it's trivial to talk about umbrella words, especially in a guild as close as ours, but the fun in that is to get a fun and semi-sane discussion going about such trivial things. You can really laugh your head off to think about what trivial things people break their necks on

Ok Varda's spoken That's all I need to hear *ushers Turgon and Gwaihir to door* :}
But seriously , I remember an Aragorn and Sauron matchup :} I also remember a Sauron and Eonwë matchup :} Seems most of these are going to involve either Sauron or Melkor :}
But if nothing else, this has sparked a topic I may bring up at the meeting Sunday :}
Take care :} Eonwë

I remember a teamup not too long ago...
It was funny to see Sauron, Varda, Myself,and if I remember right, Erestor was there also. There were a few quips about there being too many elves around! At one point, I found a ring & said " Oohhh a ring! ", Sauron taunted someting like " It's mine!!, I lost it long ago ...Gimme! Gimme! " ;D

well, I've seen a few odd teams not involving Sauron or Melkor How about Ancalagon and Turin, or me and Khamul, or as I remember from long ago, when d1 was still hot and the ME patch hadn't been killed yet. Me, (I was Feanor at the time, and even though he is counted among the good people, he certainly did some very evil things that none of the Valar approved) Varda, Ulmo and Aule in one game Those were the times .

do we really need to go into teams? Just look at what Melkor's 'position' is... he's our Ethics guy, or last I checked anyways Amusing little thing to know But ya, I understand that Varda... hence the supposed at the joking overtone Yes 'mankind' is a rather tough term... they really try to avoid using it now, amusing though it is Honestly, I really don't find it to be a problem, but it's something I had to make a note of because I would've been docked MAJOR marks had i spoken exclusively...
