A nice little essay and probably what LotRO will get on the PvP front. Its actually a great idear and thats from one who really liked the huge massive PvP battles and group fights with all the elite items and stuff + buff I could get. lotr.ogaming.com/info/Magi~24.php

That does sound like something interesting to try! It would even allow us to play from either side's perspective. Taking over npc's for a major battle, with a main person sending out orders as if to chessmen, could be something like Wizard's Chess or the Chessmen of Mars (for Edgar Rice Burroughs fans) I had assumed there would eventually be PvP of some sort, perhaps in a future launch between the forces of Sauron and the Free Peoples, much like Alliance and Horde. This would allow us to do major battles against each other in such places as Helm's Deep like Battleground instances as we reach that point in the story (level). Also, I can imagine fights breaking out between those corrupted by objects and those not so. These could be duels and might only be allowed between certain races. Same race could work, although it might be to unconsciousness rather than death. Elves don't go in for kinslaying, but they could knock each other out. Elves and Men and Dwarves might all go at each other. But it just seems wrong to think of any of those versus hobbits, and some places should not be allowed such as the Shire or Rivendell. Also, why not areas where military types train their people in sparring matches or even archery tournaments? These would not be to the death, but still have a victory or defeat.

Quite frankly I am grateful that turbine has taken this route. I think PvP on a world basis such as WoW would indeed break the emersion. I have wow If I want to go "pwn some noobs". But when it comes down to it, I would ABSOLUTELY love to get a core group of us to "adventure" through as much of LoTRO as possible!
I eagerly await this game, and I can only play my nightelf untill I can play a TRUE elf, I will FINALLY get to see my true character role embodied into an avatar I have long been awaiting.
le sigh.
Untill then let us read all the tidbits we can!

Elves don't go in for kinslaying. Hmmm hmm Varda memory is a tricky thing and pink clouds tend to swirl around those memories we would like to forget I remember three battles where Elves went for and killed Elves.

Aye, and the rest of the Elves weren't too happy about any of those three :} Hence, Elves don't go in for it :} Look to Thingol's reaction to the Kinslaying of the Teleri by the Noldor. In this sense "go in for" means "approve of." I should note for you, Varda, that Turbine decided to scrap the Virtuous/Corrupt setup, so assuming I remember everything I've read on the subject, there won't be items that can corrupt you. On the essay, that is an interesting idea for PvP in LotRO.

That's what I meant by my idiomatic comment that didn't make it across the ocean, thanks Eonwe. An elf slaying an elf was not considered normal or good, even in wartime on opposite sides. I'm very sorry LotRO scrapped the corrupt/redemption idea. That was a major story appeal to me. The guild-houses won't be up for launch either, and quite a few other of their interesting ideas. I'm beginning to wonder what will be left by the time it launches. Whatever it is, I'll be there if only for the chance to wander Middle-earth. -Fainan

Currently LotRO has PvP.
Individual: A player can duel with another player out of sight of the main PvE game.
Group: A player who reaches level 10 can go to Bree and change into a Monster in an area outside the PvE gaming. He continues to develop his character there. Monsters fight the Free Peoples here.

Well, at least in Monster Play an elf cannot kil an elf. We only kill those in monster suits.
