Make sure you read this before registering for the board. Some of this has been said in a couple of places at different times, but now it's all being conglomerated so everyone knows. You've been warned.
1.) Full members of the Valar Guild should register using their Guild name (for example, I am Eonwë in the Valar Guild and thus I am here also). You do not need to put the V at the end of your name (this is our board, registration is local to this board and so it's not required), but you can. Your most common name should be used. For example, Aragorn is preferred to Strider or Longshanks.
2.) Tolkien-Only members have two options. You may register using a non-Tolkien name (preferrably your best-known, which would be the one used for Encyclopedia articles and such) and leave it at that, or you may register as above, then change your screen name (done in your profile) to ~(Tolkien name) Such as ~Durin. This is displayed on our "Tolkien-Only Members" Page. In the first case I recommend adding to your profile in the section marked "Personal Text" the phrase "Tolkien Member." For the second option it's not required since the ~ implies it. you may also add "TV" for "Tolkien Valar" if you wish, but not required since again, this is our board :}
3.) Guild friends (These are friends of the Valar Guild through members of our Guild or who are at a pre-entry level before having passed our test for full membership )and those who are "Umanyar" (other non-guild members) may join this board if they are polite, courteous, and agree to follow the Rules and CoC as set forth by the Valar Guild.
Guild friends should be known by a Vala in their respective game and/or should have a member to vouch for them (you want us to know who's friend you are right? :}). After it's established we can tag you with "Guild Friend" if you like. You should have had more than just a random contact with someone but an actual couple of weeks of being seen and talked with either through e-mail (in the case of applicants for full membership) and/or through the game you are applying through/playing before recieving a "Guild Friend" tag. We don't call just anyone a Guild Friend :}
Both groups may not take a Tolkien name in any manner granted to Full members or Tolkien members.
4.) Members of this board moving from one form of membership to the next (such as non-membership/Guild-friendship/Tolkien membership to full membership, or promotion to Maia or Vala) should at the least change their screen name from their current name to their new Guild name. Reregistering is optional, not required.
5.) No person joining this board may register or take a name relating to the name of our Guild or of this board (which are the same). We use such names for official Guild purposes. Consider this a warning, as any account disregarding this will be deleted.
6.) No person joining this board may claim to be a member of the Valar Guild if they are not, or claim they are a member (whether of the Valar Guild or of this board) that they are not. We are a community of friends and do not take such deception lightly.
Misunderstandings can happen, and so we will try to be reasonable, but there is no grandfathering in of this. If you are in violation of one of these, you must reregister in the case of account names, or fix it quickly in the case of screen names or personal text.
Questions or comments can be made to me, Eonwë either on this board (via Private message) or via e-mail, or to Varda through the same manners, or to any Admin of this board or Council member of the Valar Guild.
